Nothing better than a good boiling soup bath for the Chaos hordes who seek to besiege the city of Kislev! In this post we introduce you a pair of Halfling Hot Pots fresh out of the painting desk.
En este extracto del Libro de Ejército del Imperio de 4ª edición se detalló por primera vez todo lo relativo a esta singular máquina de Guerra del mundo de Warhammer: “Aunque originalmente fue un arma innovadora creada por la necesidad, la Olla Caliente Halfling ha llegado a ser toda una institución entre los Halflings. La Olla Caliente es exactamente eso, una olla de líquido hirviendo arrojada contra el enemigo que quema, escalda, e incluso disuelve a las tropas enemigas. Los ingredientes de esta olla tan especial son un secreto muy bien guardado que puede variar de Chef a Chef. En caso de necesidad, el aceite hirviendo también podría servir, pero la mezcla habitual tiene propiedades corrosivas y es tan espesa que puede adherirse a la piel.”
This quote, taken from the 4th Ed. Empire Army Book, introduced for first time in the Warhammer world this unique war machine: “Originally a desperate innovation, the Halfling Hot Pot has now become something of an institution amongst Halflings. The Hot Pot is exactly that, a pot of boiling liquid hurled at the enemy's ranks, burning, scalding and even dissolving the foe. The ingredients which make up the special stew are a closely kept secret and vary from chef to chef. At a push boiling oil on its own will do the job, but a typical mixture has corrosive properties and is sticky so that it adheres to exposed flesh.”
¿Suena apetecible, verdad? En cuanto a la miniatura en sí, esta máquina de guerra no ha tenido una peana concreta: buceando por la red vimos que se suele emplazar de forma mayoritaria en peanas cuadradas o rectangulares, pero nosotros hemos decidido darle una peana redonda (de 75mm) para que coincida con el resto de máquinas imperiales presentes en la batalla. Por otra parte, no se han realizado conversiones a unas minis ya de por sí formidables, y, en el cuanto al pintado, Rogers ha empleado el esquema amarillo y verde de la provincia de Stirland (el mismo que llevan los 20 arqueros halfling que os mostramos hace un tiempo).
It sounds appealing, right?Regarding the mini, it has not had a concrete base: by diving through the net we saw that it is usually based in square or rectangular bases, but we have decided to give it a round base (of 75mm), to match the rest of imperial machines present in the battle. On the other hand, no conversions have been made to these formidable minis. Regard the painting process, Rogers has worked with the yellow and green scheme, that corresponds to the province of Stirland (the same as the halfling archers that we show you a while ago).
Como decíamos, la Olla Caliente Halfling apareció por primera vez en 4ª edición. El principal atractivo a nivel de reglas de este invento es que es máquina de guerra del tipo catapulta que ¡niega tiradas de salvación por armadura! En 6ª edición, la Olla Caliente también desapareció del libro de ejército del Imperio y pasó a formar parte de la lista de Tilea y los mercenarios (una lista que ya no se actualizó nunca jamás), un caso idéntico al que os mencionamos en el caso de los Arqueros a Caballo de Kislev. Su letalidad se vio reducida drásticamente, pasando de causar impactos solamente de F2 en vez de F3, con impacto de F6 en el centro de la plantilla en lugar de F7 (eso sí, de 1D3H). Además, vio empeorada su capacidad de aguante, que cayó de R7 a R4, debiéndose cuidar mucho más que otras máquinas ya que pasa a ser altamente susceptible de caer bajo una sola andanada de flechas.
As we were telling you, the first appearance of the Halfling Hot Pot was in 4th edition. The main rule-level attractive of this war machine is that it is a catapult that ignores armor saves! As in the case that we already mentioned when referring to the Kislev Horse Archers, in 6th edition the Hot Pot also disappeared from the Empire Army Book and went to the Dogs of War army list (a never updated to further editions book). Their lethality was reduced drastically, making S2 impacts instead of S3, and S6 in the center of the template instead of F7 (but with 1D3W). In addition, the capacity of survival was also lowered, diminishing from T7 to T4, which requires to take much more care of it than other machines, since it is vulnerable of falling under a volley of arrows.
En todas las versiones su alcance máximo siempre ha estado limitado a 90 cm, un rango ciertamente corto comparado con otras armas de plantilla, pero bastante lógico: mientras el resto de catapultas del juego funcionan mediante cuerdas tensadas sujetas a un gancho o enrolladas con tornos a un mecanismo impulsor, aquí el alcance ¡no depende más de lo que tiren un par de esforzados pinches de cocina!
In both editions its maximum range has always been limited to 90 cm, a certainly short range compared to other template war machines, but quite logical: while the rest of the catapults of the game operate by tensioned strings attached to a hook or other similar mechanisms, here the shoot distance does not depend more on a pair of hard-working kitchen hands!
En cualquier caso, el reducido coste en puntos (50 pts) de la Olla Caliente la convierte en una máquina que siempre me ha dado buenos resultados en las batallas que he jugado con la lista de Tilea y los mercenarios en 8ª edición, donde todas las catapultas vieron mejorada enormemente su eficacia respecto ediciones anteriores. El combo empleado (muy evidente) pasa por llevar un Hechicero con el Saber de las Sombras (de nivel 4, ya que estamos), que tratará de lanzar el hechizo “Atrofiar” para reducir la resistencia del objetivo, dirigiéndose preferiblemente a una unidad acorazada. Es posible lograr un resultado similar recurriendo al hechizo “Asolar el alma” del Saber de la Muerte.
Entonces toca rezar para que no salgan problemas y la plantilla no se desvíe, y que la Olla Caliente se encargue de rociar de buen caldo al enemigo. No es fácil que esto funcione (no olvidemos que es un ingenio halfling en una lista de ejército obsoleta), pero la amenaza que representan un par de plantillas que ignoran armaduras no suele ser ignorada…
In any case, the reduced points cost (50 points) of the Hot Pot makes it a machine that has always given me good results in the battles that I have played with the Dogs of War list in 8th edition, where all the catapults improved greatly their effectiveness over previous editions. The trick used (very evident) consist in taking a Mercenary Wizard with the Lore of Shadows (of level 4, let's give it all), that will try to get and cast the spell " The Withering" to reduce the Toughness of the target, directed preferably to a highly armored unit. It is possible to get a similar result using the spell " Soulblight from the Lore of Death.
Then it is necessary to pray to don’t have a misfire or a scattered template, and then the Hot Pot is responsible for sprinkling a good broth to the enemy. It is not easy to make this work (let's not forget that it is a Halfling engine from an obsolete army list), but the threat which represent a pair of “ignores armour save” templates won’t be overlooked…
En fin, que me voy por las ramas: para cerrar el post no quiero dejar de recomendaros echar un vistazo al magnífico relato sobre la Olla Caliente Halfling aparecido en el mismo libro del Imperio de 4ª edición. EliminarMuy guapas ambas, cuando lleveis a cabo el informe de batalla tengo ganas de ver el momento en el que los halflings disparan sus ollas contra el super devorador de almas de FW, va a ser un escena muy cómica XD.
